And this award epitomizes who we are. We believe that our staff and students deserve to work and learn in supportive, joyful, and safe environments. We are committed to providing teachers and staff the resources they need to educate and support students academically and socially.
What is it like to teach at Whitman Hanson Regional School District?
We have many former students and current residents who work in our schools because they love these communities. While Whitman and Hanson have their own elementary and middle schools, the communities combine for youth sports allowing students to form friendships before the two school communities unite for high school. The community is increasingly becoming more diverse with a growing multilingual community. This diversity enriches our school community and offers students cross-cultural learning opportunities.
What kind of support does Whitman Hanson Regional School District offer new teachers?
We have a three-day orientation before the start of the year, and we offer a new teacher course. Also, each teacher is provided a mentor.
How does Whitman Hanson Regional School District demonstrate that it is commited to teacher diversity?
Our commitment to diversity is part of our Strategic Plan; it is reflected in our district’s equity statement as well as our district’s Recruitment and Retention Plan. In addition, our district offers racial and LGBTQ+ equity series, book studies, and professional development to foster greater understanding.
